Description

aka Holly or Holm Oak Believe it or not this is actually an Oak tree and its name refers to the fact that the evergreen leaves are like those of an Ilex (Holly). Juvenile leaves tend to be silvery grey and mature to dark green with a downy under side. Very easy to grow. Est.10yr.growth. If left to mature Quercus ilex forms a very large specimen tree however it can easily be used for hedging if clipped regularly. It grows well in an exposed position, particularly on the coast and makes a good windbreak. Valued through the ages for medicinal purposes. Flower colour: Cream. Habit: Tree Multi Branched. Leaves: Evergreen, Light.
